Some of the projects we have been involved with.
"Make
it Count" - Raising awareness of global warming and climate
change is not easy! So, the club organised three family events, in three
libraries, across North Tyneside working in
partnership with the Energy Saving Trust, local artist and local libraries
over the holiday period. Unique posters were designed especially for
these events and the children and parents also received an "I Count"
book to stimulate their ideas before designing their own posters for a
competition. Parents who completed a questionnaire, received a free light
bulb! Member Shirley Hallam led the events and enjoyed every minute
talking, asking questions and spending time with members of her local
community and helping them to make a difference in their lives and "save
the world for future generations". Comments were very positive and
everyone who completed the questionnaire said they wanted more family
events. Freebies included an activity pack, coloured pencils, and a
windmill.
Scarecrow Competition
Working in partnership with Kathleen at Francesca’s shoe
shop on Park View, members produced Miss Soroptimism,
“Sally”, the country cousin
of Worzel Gummidge.
She towered over
customers who smiled at her pink rubber gloves covered in bling and admired the
theme of Breast Cancer Awarenesss. She
captured the attention of the judges who awarded her a “Highly Recommended Certificate” and a
donation of £20 for Breast Cancer. Carol’s poem gave the important message

I am a pretty scarecrow
All dressed in pink.
I hope I catch your eye
Or even make you wink.
I’m here for a reason
As it’s Breast Awareness week.
So ladies please be vigilant
Take a little peek.
If there’s any problem
Get it checked out.
Its best to be sure
Than have that little doubt!
