Grant Awarded Following the successful bid to the Local Area Forum Soroptimist International Tynemouth, Whitley Bay and District were awarded £2,200 to add further trees and shrubs to the refurbishment of the local park entrance that began in October 2010 during Paint the Town Pink Campaign for Breast Cancer Campaign - researching the cure. On April 28 2011 a community event attracted families at the beginning of the Easter holidays to support their local council with the planting of flowers, trees and shrubs. An information board will be added to explain the reasons for this work and it is hoped to encourage the community to join members of Soroptimism in their efforts to form a Friends of Souter and Churchill Parks. The planting should be at its best for PINK October in North Tyneside. |

| Beeplus Project - What's the Buzz about Bees SI members Margaret Alderson and Shirley Hallam got the BeePlus project off to a stimulating start when they visited the School assembly at New York Primary School in North Tyneside. Afterwards, Miss Scott and students welcomed the visitors to their classroom where they received some resources to help them investigate "Where are the bees?". SI members were "Experts" for over an hour when the students asked them questions. This is the only school in North Tyneside taking part in a project involving over 10,000 students across the UK. It has been sponsored by Rowse Honey, SI and British Beekeepers Association. It will be evaluated by SI members, staff and pupils following the use of the Pupil's Workbook and T shirt/mug logo competition. Over 60 students took part both in the classroom, the use of the Environmental area by the Eco and Gardening Clubs and a visit to the Rising Sun Country Park as well as producing a display, games and food for the School Fair. 4 SI members gave over 45 hours of service to this project. Photoshoot, a local sponsor provided every student with a certificate for taking part in the BeePlus project |
